Note: The following measurements are BODY measurements. Garment measurements are 1.5" - 2" larger to allow "Room to breathe and move" EXCEPT in the case of strapless bodices. All measurements are in inches.

The Hollow to Hem measurement is the number of inches from the hollow in the neck (front of body) to the hem of the dress.

YOUR MEASUREMENTS AND DRESS SIZE SELECTIONS

Victoria’s Bridal Couture recommends that all measurements be taken by a professional. A bridal store, dry cleaner, alterations specialist, or tailor can help you take accurate body measurements. If you are measuring yourself, you need to measure accurately.

1. The bust measurement is taken at the fullest area of the bust. You must be wearing a bra during this measurement.

2. The waist measurement is taken at the smallest part of the torso, ABOVE your bellybutton. The popularity of low rise jeans has spawned an incorrect idea of where your waist really is.

3. The hip measurement is taken at the widest part of the rear end (butt). You must stand with your feet together while taking this measurement. How to measure yourself for a gown or dress

Go to the designers size chart on our website and match your measurements to it. Most people do not fit the exact measurements for the size so you need to go with the best overall fit. It is always suggested to go with the largest measurement on the chart to match the size.

Example: If your measurements are 38" bust, 29" waist, and 42" hip, you would select a size 14 according to the above chart for this example designer.

Most gown size 18 and up are considered "extra size" and may be subject to additional fees from the designer. Check when selecting the size before ordering. Extra size fees do not show up on your total in case they are not needed by the designer. The fees are added later when applicable.

Finally, your height is necessary to see if you need "extra length". Extra length may be subject to additional fees from the designer. Most people above 5’8” will need extra length. The extra length is an extra 3” – 5” of more fabric to work with. You use what you need and the rest your seamstress hems off.

You will need measure the point from the hollow of your neck to the hem length you desire. Do this with the shoes you will be wearing with your gown or dress for best results. A full length gown or dress should measure one inch off the floor in the front. A tea length dress is a short dress that fits just below the knee.

Example: If you measure 58" from hollow to hem and you are getting a full length gown, you will need a need a "Regular Full Length with Extra Length" for this example designers size chart. There is a charge for extra length and varies by designer.

You are welcome to select any size and add extra length as you wish for your order. However, if you gown is too small, you may run into issues if you have to send it back for the proper size due to timing. Wedding Gowns can take up to 24 months and Bridesmaid Dresses up to 16 weeks. Please note that bridal sizes do not match street sizes. The dress sizes are smaller, making you choose a larger size number for a proper fit. Try not to obsess over the size number since bridal sizing is a whole other world. Remember, alterations can easily take a dress down 2-3 sizes. No amount of alterations can add fabric to a dress that is too small.

Special order formal gowns are not expected to fit “off the rack”. It is normal and expected that your gown will be a little roomy and you will need to have your gown altered to fit you perfectly. The extra room you may find in the dress is called "easement" and is designed for the seamstress to have room for proper alterations.

We strongly suggest that you use a qualified seamstress to do your alterations. Do you homework and find someone who has worked with wedding gowns to work with your special dress. Bridesmaid dresses are not as complex, but you still want the most qualified person to work on it. Please note that we are not responsible for faulty alterations or damages to you dress once it is in the hands of a seamstress or tailor.
